Stray who was sodomised at a Powai mall finds a family after mid-day reported on the incident

Rani, the six-month-old stray dog from Powai who was sodomised by a food delivery person, has found a forever home. mid-day had, on October 31, reported on the incident. The report also mentioned calls for adoption from NGO Bombay Animal Rights, which was looking after the injured and traumatised female dog. Following the report, more than a dozen Mumbaikars came forward and finally Prabhadevi residents Gokul Mundhra and his partner Sonal adopted Rani.

Vijay Mohanani, president of Bombay Animal Rights, told mid-day, “Our Rani found her forever family. Thanks to the prayers and blessings and support of each one who helped Rani in her journey. The report brought in not only goodwill and positive healing, but also her forever home.”
“We are grateful to all the kind-hearted souls who reached out to donate for her treatments, but the only thing we were looking for was a home for Rani. We completed all the documents and formalities of her adoption today and handed her over to the Mundhras,” he added.

Mundhra said, “After my partner and I read the mid-day report, we decided to adopt Rani. I contacted Mohanani and adopted her today. We already have a female golden retriever pup and wanted to get another. Sonal wanted us to adopt a dog in need. Rani is very cute and instantly mingled with our family.”
March held against order on feeding strays
NGO Bombay Animal Rights organised a peaceful march in Powai on Sunday morning against the Bombay High Court’s order on feeding stray dogs along with violence against canines. The march saw the attendance of local residents, students, animal lovers and stray feeders from various parts of the city.

Vijay Mohanani, president of the NGO, said that the order by the Nagpur bench of the Bombay HC stating that feeders should not feed strays on the road has led to problems.
“People are citing the order to stop us from feeding the animals. So, more than 400 feeders joined the march against the order,” said Karan Sharma from NGO Heavens Abode Foundation.
Meanwhile, Mohanani said, “In less than two years, we have seen two gruesome cases of sodomisation of dogs in Powai. There have also been multiple cases of attacks, abuse and violence against strays as well as feeders. So, we decided to stand up for these speechless animals and their feeders.”
