Maharashtra records 48,401 new cases and 572 fatalities, discharges 60,226 patients

Mumbai saw a drop in Covid-19 cases for the third consecutive day on Sunday, when it recorded 2,403 new cases and 68 deaths. The doubling rate improved to 153 days. The city’s recovery rate has marginally improved and is 91 per cent. On Sunday, the city saw 3,375 discharges.

Of the 68 deaths in Mumbai, 40 patients had comorbidities, 42 patients were in the age group of 60 and above, while 21 patients were reported in the 40-60 age group. The city reported the highest number of cases — 11,163 on April 4, after which a declining trend started.
The state, too, reported less number of new Covid-19 cases and deaths. As per the state’s report, there were 48,401 new cases, 572 deaths. As many as 60,226 patients recovered and were discharged. The recovery rate in the state is 86.4 per cent and the fatality rate is 1.49 per cent. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) reported a significant drop in new cases at 6,985, including the ones reported in Mumbai. Apart from Mumbai, Raigad recorded 818 and Vasai-Virar recorded 996 cases — the maximum in the MMR. Thane recorded 412 cases, Navi Mumbai 278 and Kalyan-Dombivli 539.
MMR, excluding Mumbai, registered 89 deaths, out of which Kalyan-Dombivli reported 50 cases. Thane reported nine deaths, Raigad five, Navi Mumbai nine and Panvel sex. There are presently 6.1 lakh active cases in the state.
