The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday said that in order to save Dharavi, remove the Adani Group from the Dharavi redevelopment project.

“The residents of Dharavi have not been adequately consulted, resulting in opposition to the project. There is also a lack of clarity regarding the policy for small business owners and home-based businesses in the redevelopment plan. The people of Dharavi are demanding representation in the project and transparency in the development plan,” AAP Mumbai’s president Preeti Sharma Menon said.

“Based on the current circumstances, it appears that the grievances and issues of the residents will not be addressed by the Adani Group. Therefore, our demand is to "Remove Adani, Save Dharavi," she added.

AAP Mumbai’s Sandeep Katke said that the Dharavi redevelopment project is believed to be the largest land scam in the world.

“The Adani Group company has been awarded 10 crore square feet of development rights for only Rs 5,069 crore, along with additional land provided by the railways through government funds. The last survey of the area was conducted in 2008, while the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) states that the qualification date for structures should be in 2011,” he said.

Katke asked the state government to conduct a new survey if the state government genuinely aims to redevelop Dharavi.

Approximately 80 per cent of the people in Dharavi rely on local businesses, which need to be protected. It is crucial that no families are displaced in the name of redevelopment. Adani stands to earn at least Rs 3,00,000 crore from selling six crore square feet of area, he further said.

“Who will benefit from the Dharavi project, the local residents or Adani?” Katke said.

The AAP Mumbai’s Vice President further said that it is essential to prepare a separate plan and provide a suitable developed place for Koliwada residents in Dharavi. The people of Kumbhar Wada should also be granted 4 FSI (floor space index) and a separate developed place.

Katke said that the state government should consider all the demands of Dharavikars and fulfill them.

The Arvind Kejriwal-led party urged the state government to provide a free 405 sq/ft house for all residents of Dharavi. “Release the Master Plan of the Dharavi Redevelopment Project for public access. Include the slums of Tata Power Nagar, Rajiv Gandhi Nagar, and Prem Nagar in the project, providing free housing within Dharavi. Rehabilitate ineligible tenements through the rent scheme within Dharavi,” the party said.

The party also demanded to name the Dharavi redevelopment project after Bharat Ratna Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar.

Implement the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana on Dharavi land. Provide free housing within Dharavi for all residents. Exclude Mahim Nature Park from the Dharavi Development Project, the party said.
