PM lays foundation stone for work under Amrit Bharat Station Scheme

Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the upgrade of three Mumbai stations, including Parel, Vikhroli and Kanjurmarg on Sunday morning under the Rs 24,470-crore Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.

Of the selected 1,309 stations (76 from Central Railway), in the first phase 508 (38 from CR) are being upgraded. At least 15 stations will be upgraded in Mumbai.
“Among the 38 stations in Central Railway for whose upgradation /redevelopment work the foundation stone was laid, three vital stations are suburban stations from Mumbai – Parel Railway Station at the cost of R19.41 crore, Vikhroli at the cost of R19.16 crore and Kanjurmarg at R27.01 crore,” a senior official said.
“The upgrade includes aesthetically pleasing station buildings, Swachh Bharat-inspired sewage treatment plants (STP) for a cleaner environment, visually appealing platforms adorned with captivating landscaping, upgraded passenger amenities, improved connectivity with additional lifts and escalators, modernized guidance and information systems, refurbishment of administrative spaces, and an unwavering commitment to inclusivity for all passengers including facilities that are Divyangjan friendly,” he added.

Why Vikhroli was chosen: It is close to a number of industries, the growing hub of IT industry and an upcoming Metro Green Line 4.

Why Kanjur Marg was chosen: The station is very close to the integrated double-deck metro stations of Green Line 4 and Pink Line 6. It is close to IIT-Bombay, Kendriya Vidyalaya and the industrial hub.
