Mumbai: One dead in blaze on sixth floor of Khar building

As per the BMC disaster cell, three people were said to be inside the flat. While two (one is a minor girl) were rescued safely, one woman had to be rushed to Hinduja Hospital, where the doctors declared her dead.

Mumbai: One dead in blaze on sixth floor of Khar building

The fire broke out on the sixth floor of Nutan building in Khar West on Thursday evening

A 40-year-old woman died in a fire that broke out on the sixth floor in a flat in Nutan Villa Building, on 6th Road, Khar West. The fire that broke out around 6.45 pm was initially a level 1 call by the fire brigade, which later escalated to level 2 around 8 pm. Eight fire engines, six jumbo tankers and two turntable ladders along with various other equipment were rushed to the spot.


As per the BMC disaster cell, three people were said to be inside the flat. While two (one is a minor girl) were rescued safely, one woman had to be rushed to Hinduja Hospital, where the doctors declared her dead. The victim has been identified as Hema Jagwani. The fire was confined to the electric wiring and electric installation in an electric duct. The building is a seven-storey structure and was engulfed in smoke, said officials. 


As per assistant municipal commissioner of H west ward, Vinayak Vispute, “The fire was brought under control [at the time of going to press] and prima facie according to our information, the building belongs to one family Jagwani. However, we are not yet aware of any more details. The fire brigade officials are carrying out necessary investigations.”
