One person lost his life, and four others sustained injuries after a portion of a building collapsed in Bhayander East in Mumbai on Thursday morning at around 10 am. The building, which had been declared dilapidated by the local civic body, was identified as Nav Kirti Premises Co-Op Housing Society, situated near Bhayander station.

The deceased person's identity remains unknown at this time, but locals speculate that he could have been one of the shoe shiners who worked at Bhayander railway station. According to witnesses, he might have been at the location to have breakfast when the tragedy struck, and he got trapped under the debris following the building's collapse.

Heavy rainfall has been prevalent in the area during this monsoon season, which might have exacerbated the building's condition and contributed to the unfortunate incident.

The authorities and fire brigade officials from Mira Bhayander Municipal Corporation (MBMC) initiated rescue operations and found the body of the unidentified person while clearing the debris. The body was sent to Tembha hospital for further examination and identification.

Additionally, Tembha hospital received four injured individuals for immediate medical attention. According to Dr. Anjali Patil, Medical Officer at MBMC, the injured are in stable condition and are currently receiving treatment.

Regarding the question of why the building was not demolished despite its dilapidated status, CFO Borade explained that the occupants had obtained a High Court order preventing the demolition.

As investigations continue into the incident, the authorities are working to determine the exact cause of the collapse and will address the situation accordingly. The tragic incident has raised concerns about the safety of old and dilapidated structures in the area, prompting further scrutiny to prevent similar incidents in the future.
