Dilip Chitwani, the 80-year-old man whose speeding vehicle allegedly rammed into four teenage boys on Tuesday evening near Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, has received bail.

The octogenarian, a metal trader who has a shop at Masjid Bunder, had been booked by the Azad Maidan police station under the Motor Vehicles Act and Indian Penal Code Sections 279 (rash driving) and 338 (causing grievous hurt). “It's a bailable offence. Hence, the accused has been granted bail,” said a police officer.

According to the police, three victims—Sadam Ansari, 17; Ajay Gupta, 18; and Pravin Gupta, 18—are being treated in the ICU of St George’s Hospital. Their friend Vijay Rajbhar, 18, was discharged on Tuesday itself as he had not sustained any major injury.

Police sources stated that Chitwani was driving an automatic car and had allegedly lost control of the vehicle before it damaged a BEST bus, injured the trio and collided with a police van outside the McDonalds restaurant in Fort.
