Mumbai last reported zero casualties on March 26, 2020; cases up slightly

For the first time in 19 months, not a single Covid-19 death was reported in Mumbai on Sunday. The city had last recorded zero deaths on March 26, 2020. The first Coronavirus patient died on March 17 last year. Meanwhile, the BMC confirmed 367 new cases, slightly higher than the tally registered on Saturday.

Mumbai had on Saturday recorded 333 cases. The test positivity rate (TPR) in the city registered a significant rise to 1.27 per cent, from 1 per cent the day before. The doubling rate improved a lot on Sunday and was recorded at 1,214 days. The recovery rate remained constant at 97 per cent, as 518 people recovered and were discharged across the city on Sunday.

In a message from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal said, “Let us all keep the mask on our face and let every citizen of Mumbai get vaccinated if some of us haven’t yet! I appeal to everyone to help us keep Mumbai safe’.
Cases slightly up in state
Daily Covid-19 cases rose marginally in the state. According to the state health department’s report on Sunday, 1,715 new infections were confirmed in a period of 24 hours, and 29 deaths were recorded — slightly lower than the day before. The state’s case fatality rate remained constant at 2.12 per cent. A total of 2,680 people recovered and got discharged. Currently, the state has 28,631 active cases.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) also registered an increase in the number of new infections. The state health department’s report added 706 more cases, including the ones reported in Mumbai.
At 57, the Thane Municipal Corporation reported the maximum number of daily cases in the MMR, after Mumbai. Navi Mumbai reported 53 cases, Panvel and Kalyan-Dombivli recorded 45 cases each, Raigad 35 and Vasai-Virar 34.
The MMR, excluding Mumbai, registered three deaths, including two in Vasai-Virar and one in Raigad.
