Mukesh Ambani receives death threat: Mukesh Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Industries, has been targeted by an unidentified individual in a series of threatening emails, with the latest demanding a sum of Rs 400 crore, as per police reports on Tuesday.

This marks the third email threat directed at Ambani within a span of four days, with the initial email seeking Rs 20 crore, leading to the registration of an FIR at Gamdevi police station in Mumbai, following a complaint from the industrialist's security personnel.

The escalation continued with a subsequent demand of Rs 200 crore in a second email received by the company. The intensity of the situation heightened as the sender, in the third email on Monday, doubled the demand, according to an official.

Mumbai police, in collaboration with their crime branch and cyber teams, are actively engaged in tracing the sender of these threatening emails, the official added.

The severity of such threats is not unfamiliar, as in the previous year, Mumbai police arrested an individual from Bihar's Darbhanga for issuing death threats to Ambani and his family members. These threats also encompassed a warning to blow up the Sir H N Reliance Foundation Hospital in Mumbai.

Recently, Midday reported that within a 24-hour period, Ambani received two death threats. The initial threat, received via email to the industrialist’s personal email ID, demanded Rs 20 crore. It was promptly noticed by his executive assistant, leading to a swift response by security officials and subsequent police involvement. The situation exacerbated when a second email demanded Rs 200 crore, with heightened threats of repercussions for non-compliance.

The Gamdevi police registered an FIR under Sections 387 (pertaining to putting a person in fear of death or grievous hurt to commit extortion) and 506 (II) (related to criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code, as per a police officer familiar with the case.

"The Cyber police team is diligently working to track down the sender, employing various investigative methods," stated an officer from the Gamdevi police station, underscoring the gravity of the situation and the ongoing efforts to resolve it. (With inputs from PTI)
