The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has recently launched the tender process for the construction of a car shed at Kanjurmarg, costing approximately Rs 506 crore, as part of the extensive Metro Line-6 project, which is set to connect Andheri's Swami Samarth Nagar with Vikhroli. The announcement was made by the top official of MMRDA on Thursday, stated a report in PTI.

According to the report, the tender document was officially floated on Wednesday, marking a significant milestone in the progress of the Metro Line-6 initiative. This 14.477-kilometer-long fully elevated line will be equipped with 13 strategically located stations for the convenience of commuters.

As outlined in the tender documentation, the estimated project cost covers various critical components, including the construction of the car shed depot at Kanjurmarg. This facility encompasses the laying of stabling lines, the development of the depot control centre and administrative building, staff quarters, maintenance workshop building, auxiliary substation, and additional essential infrastructure.

Dr Sanjay Mukherjee, the metropolitan commissioner at MMRDA, elaborated on the project's scope, highlighting that the construction of the Kanjurmarg depot, spanning over 15 hectares, will feature crucial amenities. These include 18 stabling lines, a workshop, a maintenance line, an automatic train washing facility, an Operations Control Center (OCC), and staff quarters. The comprehensive facilities are designed to support the seamless operation of Metro Line 6.

"The construction of the Kanjurmarg depot, spanning across 15 hectares, will include essential facilities such as 18 stabling lines, a workshop, a maintenance line, an automatic train washing facility, an OCC, and staff quarters," Mukherjee was quoted as saying.

Upon the receipt of the letter of intent by the selected contractor, the project is projected to be completed within a span of 30 months. Dr Mukherjee emphasized the vital role that the expansion of the metro network will play as a lifeline for Mumbai's residents. He expressed the commitment to expedite the construction process to ensure timely completion and enhance public transportation options in the city.

"The addition of the metro network in Mumbai will serve as a crucial lifeline for the city, and we are committed to fast-tracking the construction process to ensure timely completion," Mukherjee further stated.

Furthermore, MMRDA officials clarified that there were no controversies surrounding the land designated for the Metro Line-6 car shed, situated near the Eastern Express Highway in Kanjurmarg. It is important to note that this land allocation is unrelated to the land allocated for the Metro Line-3 project, connecting Colaba to Airport-SEEPZ.
