Mumbai: Labourer killed after track machine fails between Ambernath- Badlapur

Restoration of trains is in progress

One contractual labourer died, while another was injured after a Track Relaying Train (TRT) machine deployed for maintenance work failed in the early hours of Wednesday between Ambernath and Badlapur.


Officials said the incident happened during a maintenance block between 2.05 am and 5:10 am, affecting train services on this section.



Central Railway chief public relations officer Shivaji Sutar confirmed the incident to Mid-Day. The mail/express special trains were diverted via Panvel-Karjat. Suburban trains were running from CSMT to Ambarnath only and between Budlapur and Karjat. Later, train services were restored from 9.40 am.

Sutar said two contractual labourers were injured in the incident. “They were rushed to Kalyan Hospital. While one person is stable, another succumbed to the injuries. The body has been shifted to Gramin Hospital in Badlapur.”
