L Ward (Kurla) has now surpassed the M-East (Govandi) ward when it comes to cases of measles. According to data from the BMC’s health unit, L Ward has reported more cases compared to any other ward and continues to report suspected cases.

On November 7, mid-day hadreported about the death of three children from one family, after which civic officials conducted an inquiry. It was later  confirmed that the kids had died of measles. After this intense surveillance started, M-East Ward, which includes areas like Govandi and Deonar, reported outbreaks.

From January 2022 till January 2023, M-East reported  seven outbreaks and 71 confirmed cases. But now, the L Ward, which includes areas like Kurla, Sakinaka, and Chandivali has become the most affected ward. In the same period, it has reported 14 outbreaks and 73 confirmed cases of measles.

On the condition of anonymity, a civic official said, “The ward is still reporting suspected cases of measles. However, the numbers are less as compared to November and December. We used to get around 15 to 20 suspected cases of fever with rashes but now we are getting around 4 to 5 suspected cases a day. The local health authorities are continuously monitoring the situation.”
