This year Konkan Railway achieved a 30 per cent increase in originating loading

The Konkan Railway on Monday marked 33 years of dedicated service and 25 years of seamless operations with momentous achievements in 2023 by completing the electrification of the entire network and earning the highest ever profit, passenger, project, freight and gross revenue, getting a Vande Bharat train and achieving completion of the iconic Chenab bridge.
 
This year Konkan Railway achieved a 30 per cent increase in originating loading, which is the highest ever increase in originating loading and the revised target of the Railway Board was also achieved. An agreement was signed with Mahatma Phule Renewable Energy & Infrastructure Technology Limited (MahaPreit) for undertaking the construction of cold storage & integrated pack house at Ratnagiri.


In May 2023, an agreement was signed with BSNL, under which BSNL made a financial provision of an amount of Rs 31 crore which is being earmarked for the renewal of the Fiber Optic line.
 
To celebrate this momentous occasion, the 33rd Foundation Day was organized at the CIDCO Exhibition & Convention Centre in Vashi, Navi Mumbai. Sanjay Gupta, Chairman and Managing Director / Konkan Railway expressed his appreciation for the dedicated efforts of all employees, recognizing their unwavering commitment and encouraging them to persist with the same zeal and commitment. Furthermore, he provided an insightful overview of the accomplishments that Konkan Railway has achieved during the last 12-18 months.
 
“It is noteworthy to mention a few achievements of the Corporation in the last ten years, from 2013-14 to 2022-23. There has been a remarkable 93 per cent surge in train operating turnover and revenue has almost doubled, elevating from Rs 972 cr to Rs 1,877 cr. The project turnover has undergone a staggering 836 per cent ascent, surging from Rs 350 crore to Rs 3,274 crore, effectively growing nearly 8 to 9 times. Notably, the revenue from the USBRL project reached Rs 1,757 crore during the period from 2003-04 to 2012-13, and soared to Rs 11,400 crore from 2013-14 to 2022-23,” an official note said.
 
“The equity witnessed impressive growth, doubling from Rs 806 crore to Rs 1,785 crore, reflecting a remarkable increase of 121 per cent. The Total Capital Expenditure (CAPEX) during the period 1998-99 to 2012-13 amounted to Rs 683 crore, and it increased to Rs 3,026 crore in the subsequent years, covering the period from 2013-14 to 2022-23. The total profit over the span of 2013-14 to 2022-23 amounted to Rs 756 cr, including the significant loss incurred during the challenging COVID-19 pandemic year. In December 2017, the second financial restructuring was approved by the Ministry of Railway, under which a debt of Rs 4080 crore, was converted to equity.

In recognition of the dedication and exemplary performance, Awards & Commendation Certificates were distributed to Officers and Staff of Konkan Railway during the event. Konkan Railway always practices Safety First and is dedicated to ensuring a safe and comfortable journey for all passengers traveling along the route,” an official said.
 
Highest in numbers:
•      Highest ever Passenger Revenue – Rs 962.43 cr
•      Highest ever Freight Revenue – Rs 736.47 cr
•      Highest ever Project Revenue – Rs 3274. 70 cr
•      Highest ever Gross Revenue – Rs 5152.23 cr
•      Highest ever Net Profit – Rs 278.93 cr
 
2023 highlights:
•      Prime Minister flagged off the Goa - Mumbai CSMT Vande Bharat Express through Video Conferencing on 27th June 2023.
•      Minister of Railways conducted an inspection of the newly completed iconic Chenab bridge on 26th March 2023.
•      The development of Madgaon Railway Station has been included in the Amrit Bharat scheme by the Ministry of Railways in July 2023.
•      Konkan Railway has completed 100% Electrification of its route.
 
Through the years:
•      In March 2018, the Multi Modal Logistic Park with ICD facility at Balli, Goa was inaugurated.
•      In October 2019, Provision for PET Coke loading was made available for MRPL at Thokur.
•      In March 2017, construction work of the new factory began in Lote, Ratnagiri.
•      In February 2018, a contract was undertaken for the construction work of VISL Port Rail Link of Kerala.
•      In May 2020, a contract was undertaken for road tunnel construction work in Kerala.
