Mumbai: Inspector, constable caught accepting bribe of Rs 2 lakh

Mumbai: Inspector, constable caught accepting bribe of Rs 2 lakh

An inspector and a constable at Mulund police station were caught red handed on Friday evening for demanding Rs 25 lakh and accepting Rs 2 lakh as the first instalment from an accused booked under murder charges.


The accused were the trustees of Jeevan Jyot Charitble Trust, and a Mulund-based social worker Goldi Sharma had alleged to cops that the trust had registered and provided unqualified and bogus doctors to the ICU of MT Agarwal Hospital. His allegation was that appointment of such doctors has led to deaths in the hospital. The Mulund Metropolitan Magistrate  court directed Mulund police to register an murder case against the trust.


The offence was registered on May 11, against six trustees and investigation was assigned to Inspector (crime) Bhushan Dayma under supervision of DCP (Zone 7). Recently, the sessions court rejected the anticipatory bail of the accused. Inspector Dayma had allegedly demanded R25 Lakh from the trustees to turn the other way. 


A trap was laid on July 14 at the police station by the ACB officials. Constable Ramesh Vatkalas accepted R2 Lakh on behalf of the inspector and was caught  red handed. An offence has been registered under Prevention of Corruption Act 1988.
