Mumbai: Fire breaks out in residential building in Kandivali, nobody injured

A fire broke out in a flat of a 23-storey residential building in suburban Kandivali in Mumbai on Friday, but nobody was injured in the incident, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said.


The blaze erupted around 10 am in a flat located on the 16th floor of Orchid Suburbia building at Dahanukarwadi on New link Road in Kandivali West, a civic official told news agency PTI.


Eight fire engines are at the spot and the firefighting operation is underway, a fire brigade official told PTI.


"People have been rescued safely. There is no report of anybody getting trapped inside the building," the official told PTI.

There is no report of anybody suffering any injury in the incident, he said.

Further details are awaited.

Meanwhile, three persons were injured after some portion of a wall of a vacant four-storey building in south Mumbai collapsed on Friday morning.

As per the alert received from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), a part of a wall of empty Mehkar House building on Shamaldas Junction in Marine Lines caved in at around 8.30 am.

"A scaffolding was erected to carry out repairs in the building, but it fell down along with a canopy. Three persons, including a 20-year-old man, suffered injuries in the mishap and they were sent to nearby G T Hospital for treatment," the civic body said.

The two persons who were injured were identified as Arjun Khan (26) and Bapun Shaikh (20).

On July 15, a fire broke out in the Mittal Industrial Estate in suburban Andheri area of Mumbai on Saturday evening.

It was doused after two hours and nobody was injured in the incident. The blaze started around 7 pm and was confined to a two-storey structure inside the industrial estate located near Marol Naka in Mumbai, a fire brigade official told PTI.

Four fire engines, three jumbo tankers and ambulances were rushed to the spot and the fire was put out by 9.15 pm and cooling operation was underway, he said, adding that the exact cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained.

On July 14, a fire broke out on the third floor of a ground-plus-seven storey building in Worli.

The incident occured at around 12.40 pm at Shivtej building, Shivneri Marg in Worli.

According to the BMC, the fire was extinguished around 12.59 pm. The incident was reported by CP control room. As per BMC official, no injuries were reported.
