The Bangur Nagar police have registered a case against a female corporator for allegedly thrashing a worker of an eatery at Malad West and demolishing the food joint without any notice. The complainant said local cops never entertained him and that the corporator was booked only after he wrote to the police commissioner’s office.

Radhakant Muniji Yadav, who had worked as a cook at an Iskcon temple, said he spent a week in jail after the politician filed a case of molestation against him.

Yadav said he has been working at a shop selling bhelpuri and other snacks at Evershine Nagar for the past few months. He came in the line of fire of the corporator on May 20 when she visited the place asking how they were getting water without a connection.

“She came with 2-3 associates. Unfortunately, the floor was wet and she slipped. She was flipping mad and started beating me for no reason. She dragged me to the police station and got a false case of molestation registered against me,” Yadav told mid-day.

Yadav said the politician then got a JCB machine and demolished the shop. “This was a complete misuse of power and the entire episode was captured on camera by locals,” he said.

Despite his repeated pleas to provide what he claimed was proof of the corporator’s highhandedness, Yadav said, the police never booked the politician. “Instead, they sent me to jail for seven days.”

Yadav said he was backed by his shop owner  Mahadev Gavle. “He [Gavle] told me to approach the police commissioner’s office with all the evidence. Finally, on June 4, the police registered a case against the woman corporator and her associates for assaulting me and looting Rs 28,000 I had kept in the shop,” said Yadav.

Senior Inspector Shobha Pise of Bangur Nagar police station said they have not yet arrested the woman politician. She refused to share more details about the case and hung up. The accused corporator didn’t respond to calls and messages from mid-day.
