A dentist, Aksha Tholiya, 43, was seriously injured recently after the iron head of a hammer fell from the 11th floor of an under-construction building on 15th Road, Khar West, grazing her head. This comes merely a month after a 22-year-old, Sanskriti Kotian, died after a cement slab from an under-construction building in Jogeshwari fell on her head while she was on her way to work. Tholiya, a resident of Santacruz East, lives with her parents, brother and sister-in-law. She runs a dental clinic near her home, but after the incident, she has been unable to tend to patients.

Speaking to mid-day, Aksha Tholiya said, “The incident happened on November 9 while I was at the Shri Parshwanath Digambar Jain Mandir on 15th Road with my friends. Jain Muni Shri Amoghkirtiji and Shri Amarkirtiji were also present outside the Mandir. After completing the puja, we stepped out, and suddenly something fell on my head, and I collapsed. My head started bleeding immediately, and the pain was unbearable. People rushed me to Hinduja Hospital, where I was subsequently admitted. I underwent a CT scan and other tests, and fortunately, there was no internal damage. I received multiple stitches as the hammer head had scraped my scalp. The pain is severe, and I am unable to speak properly, as my jaw aches as well. We approached the police, but they have not registered an FIR yet. Action must be taken against the builder for failing to maintain safety at the site.”

The dentist’s father, Alok Tholiya, said, “We are thankful that my daughter survived. This is a clear case of negligence. I approached the Khar police several times to register an FIR, but no action has been taken. Police must act against the construction developer and those responsible. I have also submitted a written complaint to the Khar police station."
