According to officials the test run of Metro line 2A and 7 would begin on Monday and will go on for four-five months after which the first phase will start in October and both the lines would be completely operational by January 2022.

Mumbaikars may be able to travel in Dahisar - Andheri East Metro line 7 and Dahisar - DN Nagar Metro line 2A by October this year.


According to officials the test run of Metro line 2A and 7 would begin on Monday and will go on for four-five months after which the first phase will start in October and both the lines would be completely operational by January 2022.


A pre-test program at Akurli station took place on Friday, where the announcement of the test run was made by Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) officials.


The construction work on these two lines started in 2016 and the MMRDA had planned to complete the project in five years. Once operational, both the Metro lines would prove beneficial for commuters between Andheri and Dahisar.

During the program at Akurli, the officials also said that other Metro lines, where the work is underway, would be completed by 2026 and by 2031, over 1 crore passengers would travel by Metro.

According to officials, each train has a total of six coaches with a seating capacity of 52 passengers and 328 passengers can stand.

The test run will be done at 12:30 pm on Monday and it is said that Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray would be present for the same.

METRO LINE 7

  • Metro Line 7 from Andheri (East) to Dahisar (East) is 16.475-km long elevated corridor with 13 stations.
  • It shall provide interconnectivity among the existing Western Express Highway, Western Railway, Metro Line 1 (Ghatkopar to Versova), the ongoing Metro Line 2A (Dahisar to D N Nagar) and the proposed Metro Line 6 (Swami Samarth Nagar to Vikhroli).
  • It shall facilitate smooth and efficient interchange with the suburban rail system and MRT system at Andheri, JVLR and Dahisar.
  • It shall provide connectivity between the Central Mumbai and the Northern suburban Mumbai
  • It shall provide rail based access to the Mumbai International Airport (CSIA), SEEPZ, National Park and other commercial and geographical landmarks.
  • Dedicated depot is planned at Dahisar in an extent of 15 hectares.
  • It shall reduce the current travel time by anything between 50 per cent and 75 per cent depending on road conditions.

METRO LINE 2A

  • Metro Line 2A from Dahisar to D N Nagar is 18.589-km. long elevated corridor with 17 stations.
  • It shall provide interconnectivity among the existing Western Express Highway, Western Railway, Metro Line 1 (Ghatkopar to Versova), the ongoing Metro Lines 2B (D N Nagar to Mandale) & 7 (Andheri (E) to Dahisar (E)) and the proposed Metro Line 6 (Swami Samarth Nagar to Vikhroli).
  • It shall facilitate smooth and efficient interchange with the suburban rail system and MRT system at Dahisar and D N Nagar.
  • It shall provide connectivity between the Western, Central Mumbai and the Northern suburban Mumbai.
  • It shall provide rail based access to the commercial and geographical landmarks in Mumbai.
  • It shall reduce the current travel time by anything between 50 per cent and 75 per cent depending on road conditions.
