Both number of daily infections and number of deaths rise marginally to 696 and 24, respectively; Maharashtra sees rise in fatalities

The number of Covid-19 infections in the city has been fluctuating but hasn’t breached the 1,000-mark. After a slight fall on Thursday, both daily cases and deaths rose marginally to 696 and 24, respectively, on Friday. The state-wide tally, however, dropped a little to 11,766. With the rise in cases, the test positivity rate (TPR) in the city also increased marginally to 2.65 per cent. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region also saw a decline in new cases of novel Coronavirus at 2,127.

According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s report on Friday, the doubling rate has continued to improve significantly and was at 598 days.
After recording the lowest daily Covid-19 numbers of the second wave on June 3, Mumbai saw a rise in cases earlier last week but the numbers remained below the 1,000-mark. On June 6, for the first time in the second wave, the TPR dipped below 3 per cent.
The city reported the highest number of cases at 11,163 on April 4 and then the declining trend started.
Of the 24 newly confirmed Covid-19 fatalities in Mumbai, 16 patients had comorbidities, three were in the 40-59 years age group and 13 were senior citizens.
The Covid-19 recovery rate in the city continues to be at 95 per cent. A total of 658 patients were discharged on Friday in the city and 8,104 in the state.
The daily infections in Maharashtra dropped slightly to 11,766, but the new fatalities increased to 406. The case fatality rate has been seeing a steady rise and was 1.81 per cent. The state had 1.61 lakh active cases as of Friday.
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) also saw a marginal drop in new cases with 2,127, including the ones reported in
Mumbai.
Palghar reported 267 new cases and Raigad 472. Both continued to report a high number of cases in the MMR. Thane reported 100 new infections, Kalyan-Dombivli 97 and Navi Mumbai 75.
The MMR, excluding Mumbai, registered 165 Covid-19 fatalities. While Palghar registered 110 deaths, highest in the MMR, Raigad recorded 14 and Kalyan-Dombivli nine.
