Two brothers and their cousin from Malad, riding three-up on a bike, died after their vehicle allegedly slipped and fell from a bridge at Boisar on Tuesday. The police said the three had gone to Boisar to sell the Indian flag on the occasion of Republic Day and the bike slipped on the road,  throwing them off a bridge, when they were returning home. Their family, however, has alleged that a truck hit the bike, causing the accident.

The deceased have been identified as Sunny Pawar, 22, and Karan Pawar, 20, and their cousin Ayli Chavan, 18, all residents of Malwani, Malad West. The Vartak Nagar police, Boisar, have registered an Accidental Death Report and are investigating the matter further.

Did the bike slip?
According to the police, the incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon. Police said when they reached Viraj Company on the highway at Boisar, their bike apparently slipped on the road and all three fell off the bridge. The locals informed the Vartak Nagar police and they rushed to the spot and took three men to the civic hospital in Vasai. While the Pawars were declared dead before admission, Chavan died two days later. A police official said, “We are checking footage from all CCTV cameras installed on the highway.”

‘Truck hit it’
However, a family member told mid-day, “Our sons were not speeding. A dump truck driver hit their bike causing the accident. We came to know about the accident after Sunny and Karan’s father had gone to check what happened when they did not return home. He found their bike on the highway and when he asked the police, he was told they were taken to the civic hospital at Vasai.”

Senior Inspector Pradeep Kasbe said, “The three were riding the same bike, its speed was very fast and they fell down from the bridge. Two died on the spot one was in hospital and died during the treatment. We have registered an ADR and are doing the further investigation.”
