Mumbai: Couple suffers severe burn injuries in cylinder blast at Nalasopara

A couple suffered severe burn injuries in a cylinder blast at their house in Nalasopara (east) on Friday morning.


The injured have been identified as Sanjay Sawant (50) and Sharmila Sawant (48). They were admitted to Kasturba hospital.


According to police sources, the couple was at their house on the third floor of the Nakshatra Welfare society at Mahesh Park locality when the explosion took place at 7 am on Friday.


Sharmila was preparing breakfast when the explosion occurred. The impact of the blast was so strong that the walls, glass windows were shattered.

“The injured have been admitted to Kasturba Hospital and their condition is said to be critical,” said an officer from the Tulinj police station.

The officers said that the couple was staying alone in the flat. After recording the statements of the neighbors, the police are now investigating the reason for the cylinder blast.
