The maximum number of violations was found in Zone 12 (Dindoshi to Dahisar), where 719 people were fined, followed by Zone 4 in the second spot and Zone 6 in the third.

On Wednesday, Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), Vishwas Nangre Patil had given orders to all senior police inspectors, DCPs and additional CPs to step up action against people found without masks outdoors. On Thursday, the maximum number of people without masks was found in Zone 12, where 719 people were fined.

This was followed by 666 violations in Zone 4, which covers areas from Bhoiwada to Sion. Action was taken against 646 maskless people in Zone 6, which includes areas from Chembur to Trombay.

In Zone 5, action was taken against 555 people for not wearing masks. The areas from Dadar, Shivaji Park to Vinoba Bhave Nagar come under Zone 5. In Zone 2, which covers areas from Pydhuni to Malabar Hill, 549 people were fined for not wearing masks.

Apart from this, action was taken against 542 people in Zone 3 (Byculla to Worli), 533 people in Zone 7 (Ghatkopar to Mulund), 516 people in Zone 1 (Colaba to JJ Marg), 461 people in Zone 10 (Andheri to Jogeshwari), 399 people in Zone 11, 337 people in Zone 9 and 273 people in Zone 8. A total of 196 people have been fined in the Port zone for the same.

Mumbai Police spokesperson, DCP Chaitanya S told mid-day, “After the lockdown rules were relaxed, people reduced wearing masks. But the cops have stepped up action in view of a possible third wave.”

Joint CP Vishwas Nangre Patil said, “All police stations have been ordered to take action against those who do not follow government’s Covid guidelines. Action has been taken against those found without masks on Thursday. We are keeping a track of how much action is being taken in which zone. If we feel less action is being taken anywhere, then we will check whether the number of violators is actually less. Or else, action will be stepped up.”
