Mumbai: Cop jumps onto track to save lady at Dadar station

An Assistant Police Inspector (API) from the Government Railway Police (GRP) jumped in front of an approaching fast local to save and nab an escaping women accused on Dadar station on Friday. The accused was arrested by the GRP after her husband was nabbed allegedly for extorting money from hawkers sitting at the railway station premises.


The GRP were trying to nab Santosh Kumar Ram Pratap Singh alias Bablu Thakur, 43. Thakur has been booked in more than 25 serious cases in Mumbai. The accused has so far been found to have assets worth over Rs 3 crore.

“On May 27, we received reliable information that Bablu Thakur is at Govandi. The cops laid a trap but Thakur managed to flee to Thane. The cops in pursuit informed Navghar police station and they nabbed Thakur,” an officer said.

On May 29, the GRP received a reliable tip-off that Thakur’s wife Rita Singh is at Raigad. The police managed to nab her with the help of Nerul police station. Singh, 38, was arrested and brought to Dadar GRP. While she was walking with the cops on platform number 4 of Dadar station, she jumped from the platform onto the tracks but lost balance and fell down. Rita was unable to move and Assistant Police Inspector Arjun Ghanwat jumped and pushed Rita off the track.
