In a first, Mumbai local trains on Central Railway (CR) will now have official railway-appointed vendors who can sell consumable and non-consumable items in all trains and all classes of suburban trains both AC and non-AC (EMU/MEMU) and also on the Matheran heritage train for a period of three years.

“The licensee will be allowed to sell non-consumables like travel-related products, mobile/laptop accessories, stationery products, newspapers/magazines/books, etc. and consumable items (allowed only in suburban trains) like packaged food items, beverages, snacks, packed pre-cut and peeled raw vegetables and fruits, etc.” a senior official said.

“Vending of various miscellaneous items (excluding food items) has also been allowed in all trains and all classes of mail/express and passenger trains (except Mahanagri Express, Rajdhani, Duranto and other premium trains) across the Mumbai Division of CR,” he added. “An e-auction is scheduled to open on November 28, separately for suburban and non-suburban trains, and bids have been invited,” he said.
