Four local train motormen working with Central Railway (Mumbai) who averted major accidents in separate instances in May 2024 have been felicitated for their exemplary actions in ensuring passenger safety. “Such commendable actions exemplify Central Railway (CR) and its employees’ unwavering dedication to passenger safety and underscore the critical role played by its vigilant staff in ensuring the well-being and safety of commuters. CR is committed to providing safe, reliable, and efficient transportation services to millions of passengers in the Mumbai metropolitan region,” a CR spokesperson said.

MAY 8: While working Train No. Titwala-20 local, motorman Jagpal Singh noticed that an injured person was lying near the track at km 36/150 between Mumbra and Kalwa stations. He immediately stopped his train and with the help of other passengers, took the person into his train. The person was handed over to the station staff at Kalwa to be taken to hospital for treatment. Singh's alertness saved a life.
MAY 9: While working Train No. Dadar-Kalyan-17 local, motorman N V Patil noticed that a woman suddenly jumped onto the track as the train was entering Diva station. Patil immediately applied the emergency brakes and brought the train to a halt. It was a close call as the woman got stuck under the rail guard. Thereafter, with the help of station staff, the woman was pulled out safely. Patil's alertness saved her life.
MAY 13: While working Train No. Kalyan-73 local, motorman Hemant Kishore noticed that at Km 31/140, the overhead equipment structure had bent towards the track between the Mulund-Thane section. He immediately applied the emergency brakes and stopped the train before anything untoward could happen. He also switched on the flasher light and alerted the crew of a train on the adjacent track. Alertness on his part prevented what could have been a major mishap.
MAY 13: While working Train No. Khopoli-8 local, motorman Krishana Korbal noticed that tree branches had fallen and got entangled with the overhead wire near Badlapur station. He immediately stopped his train and lowered the pantograph. Later, he worked his train with the pantograph in a lowered position and cleared the section, avoiding any untoward incident.
