Mumbai: Bodies of three boys found at Marve creek

The bodies of the three boys feared drowned in Mumbai's Marve Creek were recovered by the police on Monday morning.


According to the sources, at 7 am, Nikhil alias Appu Kayampura's body was found in the mud near the beach. While around 9 am, Ajay Harijan's body was recovered and at around 11 am Shubham Jaiswal’s dead body was found about two hundred meters from the beach near an electric pole tower.


It was the same electric pole tower that saved Ajay’s elder brother Krishna and his friend Ankush in an attempt to save Shubham. Ankush and Krishna, having some swimming skills, struggled to save themselves for a long time and were eventually rescued by local fishermen after grabbing hold of an electricity pole about 200 metres from the beach.


The bodies have been sent to the Dr Babasaheb Shatabdi hospital for post-mortem, said an officer from Malvani police station.

The relatives of the three boys stayed in and around the beach all night, the search operation continued till late night, seeing the dead bodies in the morning, the relatives started crying.

Five boys, in the aged group of 12 to 16 years and residents of the Malwani area in Mumbai, entered Marve Creek in suburban Malad on Sunday morning. While two of them were rescued by some people before the arrival of the fire brigade, three others went missing.

Personnel of the fire brigade, police, Coast Guard and Navy divers had rushed to the spot and launched a search operation which was halted on Sunday night.

A helicopter was also involved in the search operation, which was called off in the evening.
