The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has assigned secondary engineers to each of the 227 electoral wards in Mumbai, giving them the responsibility of proactively searching for potholes in their respective areas and filling them up immediately. Each engineer has been assigned a specific area with roads measuring approximately 10 km to 15 km for the duration of the monsoon.

Municipal Commissioner and administrator Bhushan Gagrani on Monday held a review meeting of the Roads and Transport department and gave them a list of instructions for timely redressal of potholes. Among instructions, Gagrani has directed the roads department to ensure potholes are filled up while they are still small in size, not measuring more than 6 to 12 inches. All potholes should be filled in a square shape to avoid unevenness of the road surface.

Cold mix will not be used to fill potholes found on roads beyond six meters. Potholes will be filled with mastic asphalt or Geo Polymer Concrete. In a statement, BMC said, "While pothole repair work will be carried out throughout the week, work will be carried out in full swing over the weekends to ensure traffic is not hampered during the weekdays. BMC will also make a route plan for deployment of the mastic cooker, which is fitted with GPS, and its movements will be tracked through the Vehicle Tracking System (VTS)."
