A case has been registered against BJP MLA Ashish Shelar in connection with a controversial statement made against Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar. Pednekar has lodged a complaint against Shelar at the Marine Drive police station.

It is alleged that the BJP leader used offensive language while criticising Mayor after the cylinder explosion in Worli. According to the information received from the police, Mayor Kishori Pednekar came to the Marine Drive police station on Wednesday (December 8) and filed a case against BJP MLA Ashish Shelar.
On November 30, four members of a family were seriously injured when a gas cylinder blast took place at BDD chawl. All of them were admitted to Nair Hospital for treatment. The injured child died in this incident, after which the child's father also succumbed to injuries.
On December 4, BJP leader Ashish Shelar held a press conference and criticised Shiv Sena and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation for the incident. At the same press conference, an offensive statement was made about Mayor Pednekar. As a result, Mayor Pednekar lodged a complaint against Shelar.
Zone 1 DCP Srihari Balaji confirmed the case registered against Ashish Shelar to mid-day and said, "On a complaint given by Mayor Kishori Pednekar, IPC sections 354-A(4) and 509 have been filed at Marine Drive police station. A case has been registered under this. Further investigation is going on in this matter."
Ashish Shelar tweeted on this matter saying, "I wrote to Mumbai Police CP Shri Hemant Nagrale ji to protest manipulation of facts and against pressure by ruling party elements to foist false case against me !"
