Mumbai: After two years, you can now party all night!

For the first time since Covid-19 broke out, Mumbaikars can stay out late on New Year’s Eve as terrace parties can go on till 12.30 am, restaurants to be open till 1.30 am, and bars and pubs till 5 am

After two years, Mumbaikars can finally ring in the new year with the usual, pre-pandemic celebrations. The police has allowed terrace parties till 12.30 am while indoor parties can go till 5 am on New Year’s Eve. Cops, however, mentioned that those who wanted to play music at a terrace party would have to take a no-objection certificate from the society as well as permission from the local police station. Bars and pubs are allowed to operate till 5 am while restaurants can run till 1.30 am.

The police have also allowed bursting firecrackers this year, but not near buffer zones  such as oil companies and petrol pumps. Cops have also clarified that this year there are no restrictions on gathering of four or more people.

A senior police officer said, “We will keep an eye on the New Year’s Eve parties taking place in terraces and other places in societies to avoid any unwanted Incidents. We will also deploy special teams to beach areas at Juhu, Versova, Bandra Bandstand, Worli Sea face, Marine Drive and Gorai beach, Uttan beach and Rajodi beach in Vasai. This team will check that there are no drugs or rave parties taking place.”

In a bid to ensure safety, there will be heavy police bandobast at various places with 7 assistant commissioners, 25 deputy commissioners, 1,500 officers and 10,000 cops, SRPF team, 3 squads of Riot Control Police and 15 squads of Quick Response Team deployed across the city.
