The daily tally of confirmed novel Coronavirus infections dropped slightly across the state, where officials on Friday registered 3,145 new ones.

Despite a higher number of COVID-19 tests, Mumbai recorded 574 new cases after registering more than 600 cases the past two days. The civic officials conducted 16,136 COVID-19 tests on Friday, against the daily average of about 13,000 till a few days back. The test positivity rate was recorded at 3.6 per cent, way below the June average of 18 per cent.
State health department officials reported 45 casualties from the respiratory diseases. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region registered 14 deaths, including eight in the city, while Pune confirmed 11 fatalities. Out of the eight deceased patients in the city, six had comorbidities, two were aged between 40 to 60 years and six were above the age of 60.
The MMR, including the city, registered 1,027 of the state’s daily tally of Friday. Barring Mumbai, all other cities in the MMR reported fewer than 100 new cases. Cases in the interior parts of the state increased again, with Pune circle and Nashik circle reporting 704 and 510 cases, respectively.
Meanwhile, 793 more patients were discharged after full recovery and the number of active cases in the city now stands at 7,104. Across the state, 3,500 patients were sent home after they fully recovered and the nearly 50,000 people are still undergoing treatment for COVID-19. With Friday’s additions, the cumulative number of cases in the state reached 19,84,768, and the recovery rate stands at 94.8 per cent.
