Mumbai adds 5,956 new Covid-19 cases, 12 deaths

Mumbai adds 5,956 new Covid-19 cases, 12 deaths

The city continued to witness a downward trend in the daily cases and the test positivity rate (TPR). On Monday, the BMC confirmed 5,956 new cases and recorded a TPR of 12.51 per cent. Around 83 per cent of the new patients were asymptomatic.


The number of fatalities, however, remained in double digits. According to the civic body’s data, 12 deaths were confirmed on Monday and nine of the deceased had comorbidities. One patient was in the age group of 40-59 years and the remaining 11 were senior citizens.


The recovery rate in the city improved and was at 93 per cent, with 15,551 more patients being discharged. The doubling rate also improved and was 55 days.


Statewide cases and deaths also dropped significantly to 31,111 and 24, respectively. The case fatality rate continued to decline and was at 1.95 per cent. A total of 29,092 people were discharged, leaving 2,67,334 active cases in the state on Monday.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) registered 12,885 new Coronavirus infections. The Thane Municipal Corporation reported 1,452 cases, Navi Mumbai 1,221, Panvel 1,025, Vasai-Virar 366 and Thane city had 726 cases. Besides the 12 deaths in Mumbai, the MMR reported six more fatalities, out of which five were from Kalyan-Dombivli.

On Sunday, 122 new Omicron cases were reported across the state and four of them were from Mumbai. So far, 1,860 Omicron cases have been registered in the state, and 959 have already been discharged.
