The Indian Railway Stations Development Corporation Ltd. (IRSDC), nodal agency for station redevelopment in India, has shortlisted nine bidders for the proposed redevelopment of the iconic Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) railway station.

In August 2020, the Indian Railways had invited the Request for Qualifications (RFQ) after receiving in-principle approval of Public-Private Partnership Appraisal Committee (PPPAC) to redevelop CSMT.

On January 15, the IRSDC had opened the Request for Qualification (RFQ) applications of CSMT and received a response from 10 developers. IRSDC evaluated and shortlisted nine applications for the next stage.

The nine shortlisted bidders are Godrej Properties, Anchorage Infrastructure Investments Holdings, Oberoi Realty, ISQ Asia Infrastructure Investments, Adani Railways Transport, Kalpataru Power Transmission, GMR Enterprises, Moribus Holdings, and BIF IV Infrastructure Holding DIFC.

“Nine firms have qualified the RFQ stage for the redevelopment of CSMT station. Now, IRSDC will float a Request for Proposal (RFP) soon to the qualified bidders. The redevelopment of CSMT railway station is one of our most ambitious projects,” said SK Lohia, managing director, and CEO, IRSDC.

With a view to facilitating redevelopment of CSMT and other railway stations in Mumbai, the constitution of a high-level committee under the chairmanship of the chief secretary has been approved by the government.

Redevelopment of railway stations is a priority agenda of the Union government that wants to transform railway station areas into ‘Railopolis’ – a mini smart city with mixed-use development, thus attracting huge investments and business opportunities. These redeveloped stations will provide state-of-the-art amenities to the passengers and enhance their travel experience.
