A 70-year-old pedestrian was killed and two others were injured after a BEST bus driver lost control and rammed the vehicle into an electric meter cabin structure of a chawl at Ashok Kedar Chowk in Bhandup (West) on Wednesday morning.

The incident occurred at 7.15 am on Wednesday.

“The bus was going towards Bhandup (West) railway station from Tembhipada. At a curve near Ashok Kedar Chowk, the driver lost control and rammed the vehicle into an electric meter cabin structure of a chawl and then into an auto coming from the opposite direction. A pedestrian, Pundlik Bhagat (70), was pressed between the right tyre of the bus and the cabin. He suffered serious injuries on his head and right hand and was rushed to Agarwal Hospital in Mulund. The bus was later removed with help of a wrecker vehicle,” stated a press release from the Command and Control Centre (Traffic).

Two other pedestrians, identified as Ravindra Prakash Tiwari (65) and Mukesh Chandra Upadhyay (41), were also injured in the accident and were taken to the hospital.

“Bhagat was declared dead before admission to the hospital at 9.20 am. The other injured were treated and sent home,” added the release.
Further investigation into the incident is underway.
