Five people, including a three-year-old boy, were injured after a lift collapsed inside a building at Byculla in south Mumbai, an official said on Sunday. The incident took place late Saturday night in a ground-plus 18-storey Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) building located on JJ Marg, he said.

“The residents immediately informed the fire brigade and police. The injured people, identified as Huma Khan, 24, Arsha Khan, 7, Sohan Kadri, 3, Neelofer Rizwan Shaikh, 36, and Shahin Khan, 45, have been admitted at JJ hospital,” he added.

The doctors at JJ Hospital said that all the five patients are stable and one was discharged on Sunday. Shahin, one of the four patients still admitted at JJ hospital, underwent a surgery on Sunday to fix fractures in both her legs. Dr Nadir Shah, associate professor, orthopaedic department, under whose care the residents are, said, “We operated on Shahin today. Two more will undergo surgeries on Monday morning to fix the fractures. They are all stable.”
