Nearly 400 residents of the Hiranandani Heritage society in Kandivli West who had been duped in a fake vaccination drive will be administered genuine jabs by the BMC on Saturday.

The police have registered nine other cases of duplicate vaccines and the corporation will have to ensure that those victims are inoculated as well.

The society had privately organised a vaccination camp on its premises on May 30. After it was found that the residents had been given fake shots and the drive was unauthorised, the police launched a probe and a massive scam came to the fore.

The civic body also revoked the licence of a Charkop-based hospital that was allegedly at the centre of the scam.

Officials said the BMC will inoculate all 390 victims from the society at Amenity Market Municipal Corporation Vaccination Centre in Mahavir Nagar of Kandivli West on Saturday.  The corporation has also received the details about nine more fake and unauthorised vaccination drives in which over 2,000 people were cheated.

A statement by the BMC said on Friday that the information of these victims is being verified by civic officials through the CoWIN portal on the basis of their mobile numbers.

“At the end of the verification and police investigation, the second dose will be given to the citizens who have received the genuine vaccine as soon as the prescribed period expires,” read the statement.

The gap between vaccines is 28 days for Covaxin and 84 days for Covishield.

Approval is also being sought from the state and central governments to vaccinate the victims of the fake drives, wherever necessary, said officials.
