Mumbai: 30-year-old's body found on railway tracks identified by family; cops suspect suicide

The post-mortem report has revealed that Bhola Turi died due to multiple injuries

The body of a 30-year-old man, found on the railway tracks at Goregaon on Holi (March 18) has been identified by his family. The Borivli Government Railway Police (GRP) suspect that the deceased either met with an accident or has died by suicide. However, the deceased Bhola Turi’s family claims that the Turi was robbed and later murdered.

According to police, Turi was a resident of Goregaon East and worked as a cook in a Chinese restaurant.  Turi’s brother Bhuneshwar said, “My brother took Rs 1,000 from the hotel owner to celebrate Holi. Later, he went missing. We thought he went to the village to meet his wife and his one-year-old daughter. But on Sunday we were shocked to hear about his death. When I checked, I found nail scratch marks on his neck. His mobile phone and wallet are missing too.”

“Police suspect my brother has died by suicide, but he had no reason to take such an extreme step. He was happily married. We feel that he was robbed and strangled to death. Later, his body was thrown in front of the running train. Police should investigate the matter," Bhuneshwar said. The post-mortem report has revealed that Turi died due to multiple injuries. The Borivli GRP is now searching for Turi’s mobile phone and wallet.

Senior Inspector Anil Kadam said, “We have not found any CCTV footage of the incident, as the spot is too far from the railway station area. The station master told us that the deceased came in front of the running express train. We suspected that he has died by suicide or met with an accident while crossing the track. The marks on the neck could be an injury caused by the incident. We registered the Accidental Death Report in this matter. As per the preliminary probe, no foul play has been found yet.”
