Three passengers travelling on the Pune-Mumbai Deccan Queen Express sustained injuries while attempting to disembark from the moving train at Kalyan Railway Station in the Mumbai metropolitan region.

According to a report in ANI, the incident occurred on Friday when the 12124 Pune Junction to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (Mumbai) train was passing through Kalyan Railway Station. It's important to note that this train doesn't have a scheduled stop at Kalyan Railway Station.

In their attempt to exit the moving train, the passengers fell, resulting in injuries. Railway officials promptly responded to the incident by stopping the train immediately. Both the train crew and station staff provided assistance to the injured passengers, arranging for their transportation to the KDMC Govt Rukmini Bai Hospital near Kalyan station, stated the report.

A preliminary report indicates that one of the injured passengers is in stable condition. However, the other two passengers, aged 40 and 25, have suffered severe injuries, the ANI report stated.

The incident, which happened around 9.38 am, caused a brief halt in the train's journey to ensure the injured passengers received proper medical attention and assistance.

Earlier in the year, the Government Railway Police released data on commuters who died on rail premises in the year 2022. According to the GRP data, nearly 2,507 persons died due to various reasons with Central Railway reporting most fatalities. Many persons, according to the report, have lost their lives trying to board local trains on the Mumbai suburban railway. The report stated that 700 persons died after falling off running trains while 1,118 people died while crossing tracks.

The data further stated that 1,585 persons died in accidents on the Central Railway while 922 died on Western Railway. Apart from the casualties, 2,155 were injured. The report showed that 1,026 were injured after falling off from running trains while 201 were hurt while crossing tracks.

The officials had then said that they were working on trespass control programmes and augmenting the infrastructure to prevent such accidents. Meanwhile, they said that they were also counselling commuters to prevent such accidents.

The Accident Relief Train promptly reached the location.
