Accused Avinash Harishchand Yadav

A 21-year-old rape accused escaped from Charkop police van while he was being taken to Shatabdi hospital in Kandivli for Covid-19 test on Wednesday


The accused identified as Avinash Harishchand Yadav (21) is a resident of Laxmi Nagar Talav area at Charkop village at Kandivli West.


The police said that the accused, who was in handcuffs, pushed the constable and escaped with handcuffs. Police said Yadav was arrested on June 26 for allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl.


According to the police, the incident took place when the constable driver stopped the van and went to get water from a shop, while another constable was with the Yadav. The accused pushed the constable and fled away with handcuffs at MG road in Kandivli West.

A police officer said, “We searched for the accused but failed to find him. Charkop police have registered a case in this matter and investigating is underway.”
