A 21-year-old girl on Friday attempted suicide by burning herself in Mumbai’s Agripada after she found that her paramour's engagement was fixed with another girl.

According to the police, the girl burnt herself using kerosene oil in front of her boyfriend’s residence. The victim, identified as Sonal Dinesh Waghela, has burns covering 90 per cent of her body and her condition is critical, the police added.
Sonal is a student and a resident of Khar Danda in Santacruz (West). During the investigation, it was found that Sonal's paramour Prakash Kakediya is her uncle.
The incident occurred on Friday at 10.30 pm, when Sonal visited Prakash at the Umer Mansion building at Sane Guruji Marg. After learning about his engagement, she burnt herself outside Prakash’s house.
Speaking with mid-day, DCP Paramjit Singh Dahiya said, "Sonal and Prakash were in a relationship for the past three years but their families were unapproving of it. Their families decided to end this relationship and both were separated. However, recently Prakash's engagement was fixed. Sonal, who received this information from her friends burned herself. The locals rushed her to Nair Hospital and her condition is critical."
In her statement to the aggregate magistrate, Sonal said that nobody is responsible for the incident. She was hurt and wanted to end her life. Agripada Police is investigating the matter further.
