Covid-19 is not yet ready to bid goodbye to the city, with the civic body recently finding 17 cases at Veena Geet Sangeet Gangotri Yamunotri building in Kandivli West and declaring the society a containment zone. BMC also found five Delta  Plus cases in the suburb.

Of the 17 cases, 10 patients have recovered and seven are still recovering, two of whom are in the hospital. Another worry for Kandivli residents is that the BMC has found five Delta Plus cases — four in its eastern part and one in its western part.

R South ward’s Assistant Municipal Commissioner Sandhya Nandedkar said, “Slowly, cases are rising in the city and we are expecting the third wave next month as per experts. People should not take Covid-19 lightly. If there is a festival, avoid gatherings. We are working more on contact tracing now. The Mahavir Nagar-based society was declared as a containment zone after we found 17 Covid cases.”

“Separately, the R South ward also has five Delta Plus cases. Buildings where Delta Plus cases are found are sealed. We are providing them with daily essentials,” Nandedkar said.

Vaccination helped

Hitesh Mahatre, secretary of Veena Geet Sangeet Gangotri Yamunotri society said, “There are 125 members in the society and we sanitise regularly and take all precautions. Of the seven active cases, two are senior citizens. They are recovering well. Covid cases were found in two to three families because of which cases increased in our society. There have been no new cases in the past four days. We conducted tests for 35 people and none tested positive. The infected people were vaccinated so they recovered and didn’t face problems in treatment. We did not have any Delta Plus cases.”

Local MLA Yogesh Sagar said, “I have advised people to take more precautions and not be careless because cases are slowly rising. People must be alert especially due to Delta Plus and should take care during festivals.”
