One-fourth of the housing societies in the city received fully vaccinated certificates. The city has over 37,000 societies of which around 10,000 got the tag.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation started the initiative to label housing societies on October 5 in a bid to create awareness, increase the rate of vaccination and to reach out to more people. As part of the move, societies where all residents aged above 18 years are fully vaccinated are declared as fully vaccinated and given a logo to be displayed on the gate. The logo, which was unveiled on October 4, has a QR code that lists vaccination centres in the area.
Some exceptions
“In the last 20 days, around 10,000 societies received the logo where all adults are fully vaccinated. While there are some exceptions such as residents who were advised not to get the shot by doctors, we are verifying that others have received both the shots,” said Suresh Kakani, additional commissioner of the BMC.
While the BMC is distributing “fully vaccinated” logos to housing societies based on data from society office-bearers, there is no foolproof mechanism to check whether all the members are indeed vaccinated. A number of housing societies stated that they have received the logo even without applying for one. “Our health officials have data of vaccinated people in the area. They are going to the societies and verifying it,” said an official from the BMC.
