Ten companies on Friday entered a to secure the contract for the mega redevelopment of Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT).


The Indian Railway Stations Development Corporation Ltd (IRSDC) opened the bid for the project on Friday and received ‘Request For Qualification’ applications from GMR Enterprises Pvt. Ltd., ISQ Asia Infrastructure Investments, Kalpataru Power Transmission Ltd., Anchorage Infrastructure Investments Holdings Ltd., Adani Railways Transport Ltd., Brookfield Infrastructure Fund IV, Moribus Holdings Ltd., Godrej Properties Ltd., Keystone Realtors Pvt. Ltd. and Oberoi Realty Limited.


The IRSDC will now review the applications to see who fulfils the criteria, and then start the Request for Proposal stage. The cost of redevelopment of the UNESCO World Heritage Site is pegged at Rs 1,642 crore, and the cost of real estate is R1,433 crore. The total real estate built-up area is 25 lakh sq ft at CSMT, Wadi Bunder and Byculla.


The plan is to take down all haphazard development done after the 1930s and redevelop it with the best amenities. “Redevelopment will include seamless integration of various modes to make it a multimodal transport hub,” an official said. “The redeveloped building will also function like a city centre rail mall with retail, F&B, entertainment and souvenir outlets. The aim is to provide passengers with their daily needs at one place,” the official added.
