Kamble, currently admitted to Shatabdi Hospital said, “My husband and I, had left on the motorcycle heading towards Vile Parle at 11 am to visit a beauty parlour on Sunday morning. “At 4 pm, after completing our shopping, we decided to return home. As we reached the New Kalpataru building near the Kandivali West-East flyover, the speeding dump truck attempted to overtake us from the left. In the process the truck collided with our bike,” she added.
“Due to the crash, we both fell on the road and as Mangesh was wearing a helmet, he suffered injuries to his shoulder and back,” said Kamble. Following the accident, the dumper driver fled the scene without providing any medical assistance. A gathering crowd rushed the injured couple to Shatabdi Hospital, where Mangesh, an electric shop worker, was declared dead upon arrival.
The Samta Nagar police have registered a case of death due to negligence under Section 304 (a) of the Indian Penal Code and rash and negligent driving under the Motor Vehicles Act. “We are in the process of identifying the dump truck driver by reviewing CCTV footage from the area,” stated a police officer from Samta Nagar police station.
