A 50-year-old constable on duty in Kurla (West) was injured last afternoon when a man lost control of the scooter he was riding and hit the cop. The 26-year-old man riding the scooter was asked to stop by cops manning a nakabandi and he tried to escape, eventually hitting Constable Devidas Nimbalkar, who sustained injuries in his leg.

Scooter rider Imtiyaz Shaikh
While Nimbalkar was rushed to nearby the Bhabha hospital (Bandra west), the scooter rider, Imtiyaz Shaikh was detained and sent to the Vinoba Bhave Nagar police station. Shaikh, a resident of Saki Naka, was coming from Pydhonie and was carrying a big blue plastic bag containing garments in the legroom area of his Honda Activa scooter, due to which he was signalled to stop at the nakabandi at Bail Bazaar junction in Kurla west.

He tried to speed up but instead hit Nimbalkar, who was standing near the barricade.

“We have registered a non-cognisable offence against him and he will be let off tonight (Thursday night) with a warning,” said Bharat Bhoite, senior inspector, Vinobha Bhave Nagar police station, adding that Nimbalkar has been discharged from the hospital and has resumed his duties.
