MMRDA to spend Rs 18,404 crore in next financial year

MMRDA expects an income of Rs 8,672 crore in the current fiscal against an expenditure of Rs 14,588.02 crore, said the infrastructure body in a release on Monday, after the 152nd meeting of its top decision-making body which was chaired by Urban Development Minister Eknath Shinde. MMRDA develops infrastructure in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.


The original budget of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority for the financial year estimates the income at Rs 10,724 crore, which mainly comprises of money raised through sale of plots and loan from the International financial Institute, “sub-debts from the state for Metro, income from development charges, TDR, etc.”  ln 2022-23, MMRDA’s total expected expenditure stands at Rs 18,404 crore. 


“This budget mainly emphasized an implementation of Public Transport and Vital Infrastructural Projects Provide R2111.30 crore. On many new projects such as construction of bridge from Nariman Point to Colaba/ Cuffe Parade, Metro Line 10,11,12, Extension of Eastern Free Way to Thane, Thane Coastal Road, Elevated Road from Anand Nagar to Kharegaon in Thane City, Kalyan Ring Road, Kopri-Patni Road, bride on Gorai Creek, Thane- Borivali Tunnel Link Road etc. Balance allocation is majorly for important Metro corridors and ambitious projects, such as MTHL and other ongoing projects [sic],” said the release. Authority, MMRDA’s decision-making body, also approved a linking road from MTHL to Mumbai-Pune Expressway in Raigad district.
