The Vile Parle police on Saturday arrested a man who fled after molesting a 54-year-woman who had gone for a morning walk last week. The accused has been identified as Bilal Zakir Sheikh, 34. He was produced in court on Sunday.

According to the police, the complainant is a housewife who lives in Vile Parle. Last week she went for a morning walk near the Vile Parle station. The police said Sheikh, who was on a motorcycle, approached her from behind and sped away after touching her inappropriately. As it was a little dark, she did not see the number of Sheikh’s motorcycle, but after walking for  some distance, she saw him again. Sheikh sped away again.

The woman and her husband later approached the Vile Parle police station and registered a complaint. A team was formed to investigate the incident. Police examined CCTV footage of the Vile Parle East area and saw Sheikh’s motorcycle. Police arrested Sheikh in Vile Parle on Saturday, an officer said. “During interrogation it has been revealed that Sheikh works in a private firm. We are now investigating whether he has committed any such act in the past,” he added.
