As the lifeguards couldn’t hear them, a few local residents tried to draw their attention, as they were closer to them and were successful in their attempts. Thereafter, the body, which was of a man, was recovered.
Speaking to mid-day, Nirant Poddar, 36, a resident of Beach Queen apartments, the third building located on the Juhu Koliwada stretch, said, “I went downstairs for some morning chores around 11 am and started chatting with another resident. Our building is currently being renovated and painters and other workers were working on the terrace.
They started calling out for help on spotting the body. I somehow realised that they were shouting because someone was drowning in the sea, but I couldn’t see clearly from the ground level. We tried to draw the attention of the lifeguards and they soon heard us. Then they dragged the body out with help from some beach clean-up crew and general people.”
Senior lifeguard Ravi Wadhwe said that he along with Vijay Bangre and Vicky Tandem retrieved the body. “We have not been able to identify the person,” he said.
