Maharashtra: VBA protests against govt over Gairan land issue

Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi held a protest against the Maharashtra government on Thursday, near the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) headquarters amid rains today.


Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) protested against the state government's order related to gairan land encroachment and delay in the redevelopment of slums under the Slum Rehabilitation project.


Vanchit Bahujan Agadhi President Prakash Ambedkar claims that Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadanvis has given an assured that the state government will not take action against the construction on the Gairan land (Cattle Grazing land) and also the stalled SRA project will be handover to the state government.

A huge crowd gathered on Mahapalika Road on Thursday afternoon. The traffic was diverted from the road.

While addressing the protest, Prakash Ambedkar claimed, "We have received assurance from Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadanvis that the stalled SRA project will be handed over to the state authority. The state authority will pay the rent to the tenant."

He also said, "Fadnavis assured that no action will be taken on houses which are constructed on Gairan land and the crops will not be destroyed by the Gairan. Also, the ownership of houses will give to the family who are living there."
