Maharashtra: Two injured as training aircraft crashes near Pune village; 2nd incident in 4 days

There were no immediate reports of injuries or casualties in the mishap

A training aircraft belonging to a private aviation academy crashed near a village in Maharashtra's Pune district on Sunday morning, injuring a trainee pilot and an instructor on board the plane, police said. The aircraft crashed near Gojubavi village under Baramati taluka at around 8 am, news agency PTI reported.

"A training aircraft, belonging to the Redbird Flight Training Academy, crashed near Gojubavi village. A trainee pilot and an instructor suffered injuries in the crash. Both have been rushed to a nearby hospital," PTI quoted Baramati police station's senior inspector Prabhakar More as having said. "The cause of the crash is not yet known. We are conducting a probe into the incident," he said.

This is the second such incident involving the private aviation academy's aircraft in four days.

On October 20, Thursday, a training aircraft belonging to a private aviation academy crashed near a village in the district, injuring the pilot who was the only one on board the plane.

Police had earlier in the day said besides the pilot, one more person was on board the plane, and after the crash, they were rushed to a nearby hospital. However, they later maintained that information gathered by them indicated besides the pilot, no one else was inside the aircraft.

The aircraft, belonging to the Redbird Flight Training Academy, crashed near Katfal village under Baramati taluka of the western Maharashtra district, said the police.

"A training aircraft belonging to the Redbird institute crashed near Katfal village at around 5 pm. The pilot sustained injuries in the crash. We are verifying whether there was a co-passenger on board the plane when the incident took place," said Prabhakar More, senior inspector, Baramati police station.

Meanwhile, Directorate General of Civil Aviation has said that the training aircraft Tecnam aircraft VT-RBT of Red Bird Academy made an emergency landing near Baramati airfield. The instructor and trainee both are safe, DGCA said as reported by ANI.
