Maharashtra sees steep rise in fresh Covid-19 deaths

Maharashtra sees steep rise in fresh Covid-19 deaths

A day after falling sharply, the number of daily Covid-19 cases in city rose on Tuesday, but stayed below 1,000. The BMC confirmed 831 new infections and 23 fatalities. The state, however, witnessed a massive spike in daily toll with 477 fatalities.

According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) report on Tuesday, of the 23 newly confirmed Covid-19 fatalities, 17 patients had comorbidities, 11 were in the 40-59 years age group and 11 were senior citizens.


Even though the city’s daily Covid-19 cases went up, the test positivity rate (TPR) improved marginally and was recorded at 3.53 per cent on Tuesday, down from 3.78 per cent on Monday.

The doubling rate of Covid-19 infections has continued to significantly improve and stood at 453 days.

The recovery rate in the city improved by one percent on Tuesday and touched to 95 per cent, following the discharge of 5,868 people. 

Though marginal, Maharashtra once again saw a drop in daily tally with the confirmation of 14,123 novel Coronavirus infections. 

With 477 more confirmed Covid-19 deaths, the state’s case fatality rate rose to 1.67 per cent. A total of 35,949 people were discharged state-wide, and nearly 2.30 lakh patients were undergoing treatment as of Tuesday.  

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) reported a significant rise in new cases at 2,374, including the ones reported in Mumbai. Among other MMR districts reporting a high number of cases were Palghar with 284 and Raigad with 463, besides Mumbai. Thane registered 138 new cases, Kalyan-Dombivli 117 and Navi Mumbai 87.

Excluding Mumbai, the MMR saw a steep rise in deaths on Tuesday at 79, out of which Raigad reported 22 and Vasai-Virar 31. Palghar confirmed 17 deaths, Navi Mumbai five and Thane two.
